Interesting stuff on paidContent:UK about the way some publishers are “re-imagining the magazine” for the Apple iPad. The tablet device has been hailed by some as the saviour of journalism. The jury’s still out on that claim, but the videos with this article show how products such as Marie Claire magazine, the New York Times newspaper and Penguin Books could appear in iPad form with video, slideshows and breaking news.
The most convincing for me were the interactive children’s books where you can shake the tablet to mess up the character’s room or digitally paint on the iPad page. But although the NYT and MC looked good – and I liked the behind-the-scenes video of the Billie Piper photoshoot on the latter – I’m still struggling to imagine white van man sitting in his cab, supping his brew while gently flicking through the pages of The Sun on an iPad.

I’m hopefully going to be working on some iPad apps with Penguin, so will let you know how they go!
I know the white van man image seems far fetched but idea of one with a mobile was once equally ridiculous…
Re: iPad apps – That sounds fantastic and I look forward to seeing them. And you’re right about the ‘white van man’ image – just because I can’t imagine it doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Couriers, for instance, could have their itinerary and maps on an iPad so why not a newspaper or magazine?
